Canada is celebrating its urban successes on the global stage as six Canadian cities make the prestigious list of the world’s best cities in the 2025 ranking by Resonance Consultancy. The annual report, released on Wednesday, highlights the top metropolitan regions globally, focusing on cities with populations of over 1 million.

This year’s rankings come with a new twist. Resonance Consultancy, in partnership with Ipsos, incorporated “perception-based data” for the first time, surveying over 22,000 people from 30 countries. This approach combines personal preferences about where people want to live, work, and visit with a rigorous analysis of a city’s quality of life, reputation, and competitive identity.

Leading the Charge: Toronto

Toronto is leading the charge for Canada, making a significant leap to 15th place, up from 23rd last year. The report emphasizes Toronto’s role as Canada’s gateway for skilled immigrants, with half of the city’s population born outside the country. It also shines in educational attainment, ranking 7th, and is noted for its remarkable tree cover, securing 3rd place in that category.

Other Canadian Standouts

Not far behind is Vancouver, coming in at 22nd place. Known for its stunning views, mild climate, and vibrant multiculturalism, Vancouver also boasts the largest pan-Asian population outside of Asia. The city’s livability and global appeal make it one of the top destinations worldwide.

Here are the other Canadian cities making the list:

  • Montreal – #35
  • Ottawa – #52
  • Calgary – #54
  • Edmonton – #65
