Tam Nguyen, renowned for his exceptional tailoring skills in Winnipeg, carries a remarkable story behind his elegant suits, as reported by CityNews Winnipeg.

At the age of 70, Tam Nguyen was awarded the Order of Canada by King Charles III for his charitable work both in Canada and abroad in Vietnam.

“Canadians have taught me so much,” Tam Nguyen shared. “I didn’t go to school, but I learned a great deal from those around me, like how to build a future and do something good for others.”

“Share when you can. Don’t wait.”

Tam Nguyen’s journey to Canada was a challenging one. Born in Vietnam in the 1950s, he fled by boat and spent five days adrift at sea, facing great danger.

“At that time, we didn’t have enough food or water, and I was really worried. I was scared,” Tam Nguyen recalled.

After arriving in Canada, Tam Nguyen, 70 years old, overcame many hardships and has since become a pillar of support for the community. He founded the organization “Canadians Helping Vietnamese Children,” built 14 schools, and helped thousands of children gain educational opportunities. He also organized many medical and dental missions, providing healthcare to poor children.

Not only has he been active in charity work in Vietnam, but he has also been dedicated to fundraising to support the community in Winnipeg. This is not the first time he has been honored—he previously received the Queen’s Jubilee Medal and the Canada 150 Medal.

During the ceremony to receive his medal, Tam Nguyen emphasized: “Share when you can. Don’t wait.” After the ceremony, he personally prepared spring rolls to serve his guests, reflecting his hospitality and humility.

This is not the first time Tam Nguyen has been recognized with prestigious medals. He previously received the Queen’s Jubilee Medal and the Canada 150 Medal.
