Christmas markets and events for the holiday season in Ontario in 2023 are kicking off this season, and if you’re looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, head to one of the many events taking place in November and December.

Here is a roundup of some Christmas markets and holiday events for this year in Ontario:

1. Gift of Lights

Head to Kitchener to witness a dazzling display of magical lights. The experience will feature over 300 light displays and a light tunnel. You can end the evening by strolling around giant light sculptures and a towering 40-foot Christmas tree. The Gift of Lights event will run until January 6.

2. Winter Festival of Lights

From here until January 7, you can explore Niagara Falls in a picturesque journey where you can try over 23 different hot chocolates or admire various outdoor light displays along the waterfront. Stay after sunset if you want to see the falls come to life in the “Sparkling Winter Wonderland” display.

3. Niemi’s Christmas Village

Head to Mount Albert this holiday season to experience the magic of Christmas until December 23 as you tour Santa’s workshop and explore the Christmas land on the Polar Express Train. Don’t forget to visit the adorable animals at the farm before starting your Christmas shopping at their annual Christmas Market.

4. Aurora Christmas Market

The Aurora Christmas Market takes place on weekends from December 1 to December 10, featuring fire-twirling performances, photos with Santa, enjoying lively hula-hooping performances, or joining a cookie decorating workshop and shopping at the market.

5. Winterfest

Bundle up in your warmest coat and head to Canada’s Wonderland, where it will transform into a magical winter wonderland for WinterFest – a fantastic holiday experience for the whole family. This event features ice skating on Snow Flake Lake, numerous live performances and holiday entertainment, exciting rides, millions of spectacular lights, and hundreds of beautiful Christmas trees throughout the park, including two 50-foot Christmas trees on International Street. Winterfest will run until December 31.

6. The Merry Market

The free London Holiday Market is back this year, so you can support small businesses and experience free holiday decorations. Pick up a unique ornament for your Christmas tree or a cozy handwoven scarf before enjoying some delicious beer from this year’s newest product, The Beer Kitchen. You can attend the market area for three weekends, starting from November 30 to December 17.

Mississauga’s annual Festival of Trees event takes place from December 8 to December 17. Shop for Christmas at this craft market as you view contemporary art installations or try various types of food and drinks from over 30 vendors at the Culinary Market.

9. Cambridge Christmas Market

Another worthwhile experience is strolling around charming Cambridge before exploring the award-winning Christmas market. On December 9 and 10 this year, you’ll be able to shop for items from over 60 local artists, craftsmen, and artisans; or enjoy themed live performances during the holidays.

10. Festival of Lights

On November 24, head to Main Street in Markham to enjoy a night of dazzling lights and participate in festive activities. You can see the giant lit Christmas tree of the season, take a horse-drawn carriage ride, or hop on the Christmas train! Remember to stay for the entire event if you want to hear some cheerful songs or watch a spectacular fireworks display.
