LinkedIn to Launch Interactive Clubhouse Style Audio and Video Events

LinkedIn, a popular professional networking and career development platform with more than 800 million users, has recently announced it will be rolling out a new interactive events platform.

Following the growing trend of virtual events as a result of the global pandemic, LinkedIn announced its new events platform will be listing, hosting, and marketing interactive virtual live events. It will start with an audio-only product launching early February in a Beta version, followed by a video version in the spring.

“Our philosophy is to put the organizers in control,” said product manager Jake Poses in an interview with TechCrunch on January 6. “We want to make it easier to host virtual round tables, fireside chats, and more. Some may want the event to be more formal, or less formal. Some might want to communicate with their audience, to open up to the floor. We’re giving professionals interactivity and support.”

The events platform will include all the tools to run interactive content end-to-end, without the need to use other third-party software. In other words, hosts will be able to record and run the event straight from LinkedIn. It also features tools for online attendees and hosts to speak to each other in live conversations and to moderate discussions. Attendees can communicate with each other both during and after the events take place. To help market the events that will be hosted on the events platform, LinkedIn announced it will use its existing platform to list events and help get the word out about them.
