Canada’s Top Jobs with Fastest Growing Demand in 2021 According to Randstad

Statistics showed that Canada’s economy lost 63,000 jobs in December and many analysts predict this trend will continue as the government tightens COVID-19 restrictions amid a rising number of cases in the country.

But while the new set of lockdowns has once again disproportionately affected the same services-sector industries, where job loss rates are highest in March and April, a new report by Randstad, one of the largest HR companies in the world, suggests that the pandemic is also creating jobs in other parts of the economy.

Carolyn Levy of Randstad Canada says the positions are seeing the fastest growing demand from employers reflects how companies are adapting to new realities. And many of these trends are likely to persist after a pandemic.

Here are the big changes happening in the Canadian labour market:

  • Shift to online sales — customer service representatives, delivery drivers, IT and support desk specialists, procurement and supply chain specialists, warehouse workers
  • Shift to work-from-home — administrative assistants, IT specialists, security analysts and architects
  • Shift to online sales — customer service representatives, delivery drivers, IT and support desk specialists, procurement and supply chain specialists, warehouse workers
  • Shift to work-from-home — administrative assistants, IT specialists, security analysts and architects

One notable feature of the pandemic economy, Levy said, is that many of the workers displaced by COVID-19 restrictions may qualify for other jobs that the health crisis is creating.

For example, travel booking agents, flight attendants, and hotel staff may have the right skills for customer representation or essential retail jobs.

Job seekers should keep an open mind and look for opportunities that are not necessarily in their industry.
