Vietnamese-Canadian Author Kim Thúy named to Order of Canada

Health columnist for The Globe and Mail, André Picard, novelist Kim Thúy, and media personality George Stroumboulopoulos have been awarded the Order of Canada, along with a lengthy list of notable activists, scholars, artists, and business figures. This recognition aims to honor the achievements and contributions of 78 Canadians from various fields representing the entire country.

André Picard, a reporter and Health columnist at The Globe since 1987, has been praised for “his dedication to improving understanding and practice of community health in Canada.”

Writer Kim Thúy has been acknowledged for “amplifying the voices and experiences of immigrants and refugees,” while George Stroumboulopoulos is honored for his “outstanding contributions to Canadian media and journalism.”

The Order of Canada honorees also include Willie Adams, the first Inuit senator in Canada, and guitar maker Linda Manzer. Among the new members of the Order are editorial cartoonist Michael de Adder and pollster Nik Nanos, representing major media outlets.

This prestigious honor has also been bestowed upon investigative journalist Susanne Craig of The New York Times, a Pulitzer Prize winner and former Globe reporter, as well as Francine Lemire, a physician representing Canada at the 1980 Paralympics.
