Scheduled to film in Mexico, London, Rome, Austria and Morocco, Spectre promises to be the most extravagant and possibly the best Bond movie ever made, with a budget of over $300 million.
Back for the 4th time as the MI6 super spy James Bond, actor Daniel Craig’s rumoured paycheque is $46 million USD, along with a huge profit sharing package. Currently filming in Mexico, Craig is being pampered like a prince (being helicoptered to and from the set everyday), and living like a monk (having to work out like an Olympic athlete and going to bed at 9PM and waking up at 5AM daily). For the opening sequence alone, 1,000 extras – dressed as skeletons and zombies for Mexico’s Day of the Dead Parade – were employed.
True to the movie’s international appeal, the Bond girls are selected from many exotic corners of the world. Goddess-like Italian actress Monica Bellucci, age 50, became the oldest actor to take on a “Bond girl” role. The seemingly sweet yet daring French actress Léa Seydoux will play the role of the sexy and smart Dr. Madeleine Swann. Mexican actress Stephanie Sigman got her first big break as Estrella, Mexico’s first ever Bond girl.
The synopsis of Spectre involves James Bond receiving a cryptic message from his past and this sends him on a quest to uncover a sinister organization (German-Austrian actor Christoph Waltz plays the antagonist), while M (played by English actor Ralph Fiennes) battles political forces that want to shut down the British secret service.
While the audience anxiously awaits the November release, they can feast on these Bond fun facts:
- Including Spectre, there are presently 24 official Bond movies
- Across all the films, Bond has used his “license to kill” on at least 352 people and has slept with 52 women. Pierce Brosnan was the deadliest Bond, having killed 47 people in “Goldeneye.”
- In the books, Bond was a pretty heavy smoker, puffing away at 70 cigarettes a day.
- Bond’s favourite car brand is Aston Martin and favourite drink is “Vesper Martini,” a drink consisting of three parts gin, one part vodka, and ½ part blonde Lillet wine.
