[dropcap]S[/dropcap]ome may poke fun at the generosity of this media mogul, but there is no doubt that the world takes Oprah’s role model status very seriously.

Her story began in poverty and abuse, but she overcomes the hardships and with her great talent at public speaking, she eventually became the television host and owner of the Harpo Production company, which everyone relates to her image today.

With her fame and fortune, she has also given back to the world community immensely, the most notable times being the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa, as well as the charitable organization, Oprah’s Angel Network, which raised over $11 million dollars towards helping the relief effort for victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Advocating for many charities and foundations, some of her most prominent moments of support are for human rights, women’s rights, and children’s rights – her influence is absolutely astounding; not only does she push the boundaries on fair treatment of others. As a successful businesswoman, she is also  an exemplary role model to people all over the world.

Most recently, she was heavily involved in the production, in addition to starring in the Oscar-nominated film, of Selma, a movie about the life of Baptist Minister Martin Luther King.
