Opening up a restaurant seems like the new “ in” thing to do. Toronto’s cityscape is bustling with spots trendier than the last, catering to millennials looking for picture perfect foods.  Trying a new restaurant is exciting, but when you are craving a good meal it can be risky.  The luxury of going to your tried and trusted spot, ordering your favorite meal from a familiar server at your requested table is like no other.

Take a leisurely walk down College Street and you’ll find Sidecar, where a great evening is guaranteed. Standing strong for the last 10 years the restaurant has stayed true to providing fine fare for a fair price. It provides no-fuss fine dining with quality and comfort.

The ambient dining room features warm colored brick walls and welcoming candlelit tables. A semi-open kitchen exudes delicious aromas of pastas and soups. Want an excuse to “slip into something nice”?  Or maybe you just want to let your hair down. Either way, the restaurant suits any occasion. A warm greeting along with a basket of golden brown bread and hummus gets you nestled in the homey glow.

Sidecar’s menu is elegantly curated with classic bistro items under the expertise of owner and operator, Bill Sweete.  You might try a delicate Carpaccio to start or dive head first into a hearty short rib fusilli dowsed in tomato ragu. Another popular specialty is a hefty steak playfully served with parmesan dusted frites. On Sunday to Thursday a $25 three-course prix fixe offers an abundance of fresh salads and elevated comfort foods including oven roasted chicken, cavatelli and Atlantic salmon.

Service is considerate and attentive, with minimal but friendly interaction. The professional, personable staff makes newcomers feel welcome and by the second visit it is as if you are part of the Sidecar family. Become a regular, and they’ll remember your drink of choice and how you like your steak.

Whether you want to impress your co-workers, go on a romantic date or take a detour on your evening stroll, Sidecar is a great choice. Stop by in heels or a much loved pair of Levis and order a glass of wine or a three-course meal. Make Sidecar your new retreat, one you’ll want to revisit again and again.
