Gather your friends for delicious dinner or a banquet at one of the finest Chinese restaurants in Southern California. Hakkasan, the renowned restaurant in Beverly Hills serves authentic Cantonese cuisine executed with modern influences. A favorite among celebrities, the esteemed international Hakkasan brand is known for being one of the most popular dining and nightlife destinations in each of its locations. On the evening that I visited, the Hakkasan signature blue facade and ornately patterned stainless steel doors seemed to light up the night skies. The nicely dressed security staff greeted me and ushered me through the doors. I found myself stepping into a richly hued entryway. The restaurant space was surrounded by a series of intricately carved Chinese screens known as the “Cage,” a signature Hakkasan design element. Each partitioned section provides guests a sense of privacy at their tables. The sultry Shanghai Chinois inspired aesthetic infused with the chic style of Beverly Hills created a luxurious ambiance. The host guided me to one end of the spacious room to an impressive 66-foot long bar with blue backlit monolith set against white marble calacatta walls. Elegantly dressed diners began filling the restaurant, and by 7 o’clock nearly every table was filled.
Hakkasan offers classics such as Roasted Silver Cod with Champagne and Crispy Duck Salad in addition to a lighter menu, created exclusively for the Beverly Hills location. For starters, I chose the signature house dishes: Crispy Duck Salad with pomegranate, pine nut and shallot, and pan-seared scallops with mango. The juicy scallops, simultaneously delicate and intense, were melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The duck salad was a perfect combination of fresh greens and small pieces of duck breast meat with crispy skin. The first two dishes were delicious, and I concluded that the rest would be just as delectable. Throughout the meal, the restaurant staff was friendly, attentive and dropped by to check if I needed anything else. For my entrée, I chose the wok-fried lobster in XO sauce, and the black truffles roasted duck. Food aficionados will surely appreciate the most tender and flavorful duck. Hakkasan is known for this dish, revered for it’s perfect balance of flavor and tenderness. Every dish I tried was savory. The portions were also generous to share, if you choose. For guests that seek a more intimate meal, The Lotus is a private dining room directly off the main room, which can seat up to 18 guests. Hakkasan was founded in London in 2001 and quickly established itself as the most successful modern Cantonese restaurant in London. It has since expanded to locations including Miami, Abu Dhabi, Mumbai, Dubai, New York, Doha, San Francisco, and Las Vegas.
