Every September, when the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) rolls in, Toronto gets a little more radiant. Film fanatics flock to the festival as stars hit the red carpet enthralling us with both their star power and their style. Below, we’ve gathered some of our favorite looks and highlighted a few of the trends we’ve spotted at the event.

Red

Red is powerful, passionate and daring. It’s also fall’s biggest and boldest trend. We’re seeing variant red hues in fashion – crimson, scarlet, ruby, berry to name a few. Many celebrities at TIFF were either incorporating red elements to their outfit or killing it with entire red ensembles.

TIP: Keep your makeup bare or minimal and put on a red lipstick matching your outfit’s shade of red for an extra pop.

Lace

Last year we saw a lot of loungewear-inspired trends on the runway such as the pajama shirt or the satin robe. This year is all about lace and corsets. Lace is an incredibly versatile fabric. It can be elegant and feminine or sexy and femme fatale and we saw both at the red carpet.

TIP: Choose pastel colors for a princess look and black for a sexy look. Keep your skirt or gown length midi or maxi to maintain an evening/ cocktail formality.

Boho-Chic

Boho-chic slowly trickled into runways in 2013 and now it has evolved into a full-fledged trend. These days, the new boho is a whimsical bohemian style for everyday wear rather than only at music festivals. Think multi-layered textures and eclectic prints, not floral crowns and suede fringe vests. One place we did not see the boho trend in previous years was on the red carpet, but this year we did!

TIP: This is where you can rock those statement rings. Keep your necklace simple and dainty for formal events. Layer two necklaces, one short and one longer, for a subtle statement.
